Ember Lily

3D Design

The idea behind this project was to create something that could be used as a motion graphic for my portfolio. I wanted to focus on smooth animation with a high resolution result. I was able to practice layering built-in textures to build a custom texture for the petals, utilising emission to create visual appeal, and adding subtle movement in animation to draw interest.

Tools Used

Blender, DaVinci Resolve, Adobe After Effects

Rendering

Due to the close-up shot of the petals, I couldn’t use a standard PBR texture without visible seams or repetition. Instead, I created a custom texture in Blender by layering colours and built-in textures. Using texture painting, I was able to confine colours and details to specific areas of the petals while maintaining a fantasy aesthetic with the addition of emission. To enhance the lighting, I applied key and fill lights to appropriately lift shadows and introduced a subtle, coloured backlight to complement the vibrant red against the dark background.
